The 2001 model year introduces a new entry-level Lexus sedan. Positioned to challenge in a premium car class inhabited by the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, the 2001 Lexus IS 300 is a rear -wheel drive sporty four-door vehicle. Lexus' LS flagship sedan is given an all-new appearance for 2001. Now called the LS 430, the sedan is taller and rides on a longer wheelbase than the 2000 LS 400. One standout available feature on the new Lexus LS 430 is Dynamic Laser Cruise Control that automatically adjusts vehicle speed to maintain distance with other vehicles. Lexus introduces an all-new 4.3-liter V-8 engine powering the LS 430 as well as the new GS 430. Side curtain airbags and an electronic compass is also added to the Lexus GS line for 2001. The 2001 Lexus ES 300 receives a revised option package grouping and come standard with a new in-trunk emergency release. An added list of features is found on the 2001 LX 470 including an optional navigation system and a nine-speaker Mark Levinson audio suite.
