The 2001 model year for GMC contains a new level of high-capacity pickup truck. The Sierra 2500 and 3500 are both upgraded to the GMT800 platform sharing styling as well as construction with the half-ton. A new 6.0-liter V-8 engine is standard on the Sierra 2500 and 3500 models. All-new 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 allowing the trucks to handle greater hauling loads. With the new Sierra 1500HD, a Crew Cab body style is introduced with a half-ton rated GMC pickup truck. The 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck line adds the C3 billed as a well-equipped model. With GMC's smaller pickup truck, the 2001 Sonoma, 2001 features the debut of a Crew Cab equipped exclusively with four-wheel drive. When the Yukon was upgraded to the new GMT800 platform in 2000, the Yukon Denali retained the previous chassis and design. For 2001, GMC has now granted the new sport utility Yukon the Denali treatment featuring an exterior featuring an exclusive grille pattern and power of a 6.0-liter V-8 engine.
