For 1999, Japanese-based car builder Mazda debuts the latest incarnation of their MX-5 Miata and a pivotal compact sedan. Mazda's popular sport roadster, the MX-5 Miata, receives its first major re-engineering since introduction in 1990. With more aerodynamic RX-7 supercar inspired styling and an upgraded mechanicals such as a higher compression engine, one of the most noticeable changes is the pop-up headlights are replaced by opposed lighting assemblies. Mazda Protege has completely retuned for 1999 with all-new styling. The entry-level 1999 Protege is exclusively offered as a sedan with a new selection of four-cylinder engines. Offering two additional rear passenger access doors, the 1999 Mazda B-Series Cab Plus 4 truck is available with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models. A new Troy Lee Edition version of the B-Series truck debuts with custom graphics and specially-designed alloy wheels. A keyless entry and power antenna is now standard equipment on the Mazda 626 for 1999. The Mazda MPV minivan has been dropped for 1999. A new version of the vehicle is planned for arrival in the 2000 model year.
