For decades, Audi has used the term Avant to define their wagon line-up. Prior to selling the Q7 crossover vehicle, Audi offered Avant versions of the A4 and A6 sedans providing premium car buyers with increased cargo capacity and a special European flavor. The Audi brand has also made several attempts to enhance all-terrain prowess to their wagons using the allroad nameplate. First debuting based on the A6 Avant, the Audi allroad quattro featured an air suspension as well as bodywork created to better suit various surfaces. After a long absence, the allroad returned to the United States market based on the A4. In recent years, the Avant wagons has been replaced by the Sportback nameplate. In the United States, the A7 Sportback is an athletically styled hatchback-like vehicle with expanded storage space.
