This classic example of the people's car has been painted "Congrats, It's A Boy!" blue.
Here in SoCal we come across high-end exotics all of the time (go back and take a look at the Ferrari F40 and the Morgan Aero 8), but sometimes it is the other end of the scale that catches my attention. Caught in the mid-day sun, perhaps trying to tan it's pale blue skin a darker shade, was this awesome example of the classic VW Type 3, also known as the 1600, or more affectionately, the Squareback. The 1948 Land Rover, named Huey, is the very first pre-production model.
Land Rover, the iconic manufacturer of true sport utility vehicles, just celebrated its 60th anniversary at the 2008 Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. The Morgan Aero 8 ... bug-eyed but still beautiful.
Here in Southern California, I come across all manner of automotive awesomeness. I see Ferraris, Bentleys, and other exotic cars on a weekly basis. One car I had never seen before is the Morgan Aero 8 ... until now.
Walking out of lunch the other day, I spotted this specimen sitting in the valet court practically screaming to be driven at questionable speeds. This car is capable of 0-60 jaunts in the sub 4.5 second range and has a top speed of 170 mph. More...
