For 2009, the Toyota 4Runner, a five-passenger midsize SUV, adds a new optional trail edition package for off-road adventures. Standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel and a CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack. Providing a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, the 4Runner comes equipped with a standard 4.0L V6 engine that generates 236 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque or an optional 4.7L V8 engine that churns out 260 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque, each paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the V6 can tow 5,000 pounds, while the rear-wheel-drive V8 can handle 7,300 pounds and the four-wheel-drive V8 can pull 7,000 pounds. EPA fuel economy estimates rate the rear-wheel-drive V6 at 16 mpg city/21 mpg hwy and 18 mpg in combined driving, while the V8 is good for 15/19/17 mpg, and the four-wheel-drive trims rate a bit less. Toyota 4Runner safety equipment includes stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes and a full array of airbags. |
