2009 Mercury Mariner
2009 Mercury Mariner
After restyling last year, the 2009 Mercury Mariner five-passenger compact SUV gets more powerful and fuel-efficient engines, a new six-speed automatic transmission and an additional t rim level. Available with either front- or all-wheel drive, the Mercury Mariner is equipped with a 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine that produces 171 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque or a 3.0L V6 engine that outputs 240 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, the V6 can tow up to 3,500 pounds. EPA fuel economy estimates for the I4 FWD are 20 mpg city/28 mpg hwy, and the I4 AWD gets 19/25, while the V6 FWD V6 achieves18/26 and V6 AWD is good for 17/24. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid is powered by a 2.5L gas engine working with two electric motors for a combined output of 177 hp, paired to a continuously variable transmission. The gas engine is used to recharge the battery pack, and a regenerative braking system also contributes to recharging. On the AWD Hybrid, a third electric motor is used to provide extra power to the rear wheels. The EPA rates Mariner Hybrid fuel economy as 34 mpg city/31 mpg hwy and 32 mpg in combined driving for FWD, while the AWD gets 29/27/28 mpg.
