Utilizing true truck-type construction, the 2009 Kia Sorento is a midsize SUV with four doors and seating for five. It slots below the larger Borrego in both size and price. Base and LX models are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine producing 242 hp, while the EX models have a 262 hp 3.8-liter V6. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission available. You can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The 2009 Kia Sorento is available with two different four-wheel drive setups, both with a low-range gear for off-roading. The standard system cannot be left engaged on dry pavement, however Kia's Torque-On-Demand four-wheel drive system can. Towing capacity is 3500 lb with the 3.3-liter V6 and 5000 lb with the 3.8 V6. 2009 Kia Sorento safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and a driver's knee airbag. Options exclusive to the Sorento EX include heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.
