For 2009, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L V8 engine gets more power and fuel economy, the high-performance SRT8 is spruced up with more leather trim and a performance trip computer, and the navigation system gains an iPod interface. A five-passenger midsize SUV, the Grand Cherokee offers either rear- or four-wheel drive, except on the SRT8, which is all-wheel drive only. The Laredo has a 3.7L V6 engine, which is capable of 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque with the mandatory five-speed automatic transmission and gets estimated fuel economy of 16 mpg city/21 mpg hwy and 18 mpg combined with 2WD and 15/20/17 mpg with 4WD. Stepping up, a 4.7L V8 engine that generates 305 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque is optional on the Laredo and standard on the Limited, achieving fuel economy of 14/19/15 mpg for the 4WD. Next, the high-powered 5.7L Hemi V8 engine cranking out 357 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque is optional on the Limited 4WD and standard on the Overland but is able to get 13/19/15 mpg in fuel economy with 4WD. Finally, the all-wheel-drive-only SRT8 is loaded with a 6.1L V8 engine that pushes out 420 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, but fuel economy is only 11/14/12 mpg.
