For 2009, the GMC Sierra 1500 gets a new V8 option, a new six-speed automatic transmission and some desirable options, including Bluetooth, XM traffic reporting and a back-up camera. A half-ton full-size pickup that's available in three body styles—standard cab, extended cab and crew cab—the Sierra offers a variety of engines, some of which are E85 capable. GMC Sierra 1500 standard features include a 4.3L V6 with 195 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque as standard, but can be upgraded to a 4.8L V8 with 295 hp and 305 lb-ft, or a 5.3L V8 with 315 hp and 338 lb-ft. Available on select trim levels is the 6.0L V8 with 367 hp and 375 lb-ft or the brand-new 6.2L V8 with 403 hp and 417 lb-ft. A four-speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul mode is standard, while a six-speed automatic is available. Properly equipped, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 10,700 pounds. Fuel economy estimates range from 15 mpg city/20 mpg hwy to 14/18 mpg. Antilock brakes are standard, while the V8s are equipped with a stability control system with roll-mitigating technology. |
