A new six-speed automatic transmission and a more powerful ethanol-capable V8 engine head the list of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 refinements for the 2009 model year. Regular cab, extended cab and crew cab trims are available with two-wheel or four-wheel-drive, depending on the trim. As Chevrolet Silverado 1500 photos show, there is a choice of three cargo bed lengths — short, regular or long — and four distinctive trim levels. A range of engines is available: a 4.3L V6 with 195 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which can be upgraded to a 4.8L V8 with 295 hp and 305 lb-ft, or a 5.3L V8 with 315 hp and 338 lb-ft. Optional on some trims is a 6.0L V8 with 367 hp and 375 lb-ft or a 6.2L V8 with 403 hp and 417 lb-ft. A four-speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul setting comes standard on all Silverado 1500 pickups, while a six-speed automatic transmission is available on select trims. Properly equipped, a Silverado 1500 can tow up to 10,700 pounds. Fuel economy estimates range from 15 mpg city/21 mpg hwy and 17 mpg combined for a crew-cab XFE to 12/19/14 mpg for a 4WD Silverado 1500 equipped with the 6.2L V8.
