FAST FACTS
  • Few if any changes are anticipated for Scion for 2009

  • The 2009 Scion xB and tC models arrived in dealerships early, with sales beginning in May 2008

  • The tC gets updated interior fabric

2009 Scion xB

The xB, Toyota's so-called "party in a box" vehicle, launched its second generation for the 2008 model year with a new body, interior and engine. The car is unchanged for 2009; indeed, sales began in May with the only change being Stingray Metallic paint available instead of the former Nautical Blue Metallic color. The 2008 model year brought a new flair to the xB's boxy design, as well as the added punch from a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 158 hp, or a third more power than was available for the first-generation "xBox." The new engine provides 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway mileage ratings.

2009 Scion tC

Scion's sporty coup_ received a front-end makeover for 2008 as well as some interior refinements, including new fabrics and an updated audio system. Fabrics continue to be enhanced for the 2009 model year. Otherwise, the product carries over with power coming from a 161-hp, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine.

2009 Scion xD

The xD was an all-new model for 2008, replacing the original Scion xA, and thus no significant changes are likely for the 2009 model year. The xD is what Scion calls an "urban subcompact." It's a stylish, 5-door hatchback based on the Toyota Yaris platform, but is equipped with a 128-hp, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine.
