The rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet SS aims for luxury sport sedans from European manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes. In pursuit of this goal, the SS features understated handsome looks, a standard 415-hp V8 engine, impressive chassis dynamics and a classy leather-covered interior.
Chrysler's 300 SRT8 is rear-wheel drive for similar money, but doesn't come with standard leather seats, navigation, heads-up display or HID headlamps. BMW's 550i offers a powerful V8 in a brilliant rear-wheel drive chassis, but it starts at $19,000 more than the SS.
Bottom line: The Chevrolet SS brings impressive performance and an outstanding standard feature list for less money than the competition.
