At the base level, the Lancer packs plenty of fun and safety features into a sub-$18,000 package. The $28,300 Ralliart model features all-wheel drive and a mild turbocharged engine with enough performance to surprise. Sportback models add increased cargo carrying functionality. The base Lancer returns great fuel economy, achieving 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The Lancer Evolution continues to be one of the best performance values available. A 291-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine combined with Mitsubishi's famed Super All-Wheel Control system makes for intense power and control at a price around $35,000.
Carried over with minimal changes, the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback is a compact five passenger hatchback. The Lancer Sportback is offered with two different engines; a standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine (148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque) and an optional 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine (168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque). Transmission options consist solely of a CVT automatic that enables the Lancer Sportback to achieve fuel mileage within an EPA estimated range of 22 mpg city to 32 mpg highway, depending on drivetrain selection.
