The completely-new Mazda CX-5 is the Japanese-based brand's for production implementation of KODO-Soul of Motion design language as well as SkyActiv technology. SkyActiv creates efficiency through the use of lightweight construction matched with small but powerful engines. The 2012 Mazda CX-5 replaces both the CX-5 crossover and the Tribute compact sport utility vehicle. Heavily revised for 2012, the Mazda5 employs the Japanese brand's Nagare design language. Maintaining its 44.4 cubic feet of total cargo volume, the 2012 Mazda5's interior features a new design with a driver-oriented layout. SkyActiv technology is also employed on the heavily-revised Mazda3 resulting in better fuel economy without giving up road performance. Mazda dropped its radical, rotary-powered Mazda RX-8 sport coupe with the conclusion of the 2011 model year.
