The 2002 model year marks the end of the Pontiac Firebird. The Firebird as well as its high-performance Trans Am is being dropped from the brand's product line. In recognition, buyers are offered a Collector's Edition version of the 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am featuring a yellow primary color paired with black wheels and striping. With a more assured future with the brand, the 2002 Grand Prix is offered with a 40th Anniversary Package. Employing a NASCAR-inspired rear spoiler, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 40th Anniversary Package features a Dark Cherry Metallic exterior and a two-tone color interior. A year after introduction, the Pontiac Aztec's polarizing design is revised for 2002. The body cladding is now body color matching instead of the gray appearance used in 2001. The 2002 Pontiac Aztec also gains a revised list of equipment that included a standard CD player. A new engine debuts on the 2002 model year Pontiac Grand Am and Sunfire. The 140-horsepower 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder powerplant is General Motors' latest global engine.
