Toyota's 1998 brand line-up is bolstered with an all-new Corolla sedan. Part of the redesigned Toyota Corolla compact car is an all-aluminum engine that incorporates a timing chain. Signifying a new path of minivan construction for Toyota, the Sienna debuts with a front-engine layout similar to what is found on American minivan competitors. The new-for-1998 Toyota Sienna is standard equipped with a six-cylinder engine. Toyota's top sport utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser, is completely new for 1998. Along with new exterior styling, the 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser introduces the historic vehicle's first V-8 engine. No longer offered from Toyota in 1998 is the Paseo sport coupe. A passenger-side airbag is now included on all Toyota Tacoma models.
