For 1998, an all-new Audi A6 debuts as a sedan and wagon. The mid-level Audi product boasts new aerodynamic contouring and available quattro all-wheel drive technology. Standard features on the 1998 Audi A6 include premium amenities such as a power sunroof and leather seating. A six-cylinder powered Audi A4 2.8 Avant wagon model is new for the 1998 model year offered with front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive. A Porsche-derived five-speed tiptronic transmission is mated to the 2.8-liter V-6 powerplant found in the new wagon. The five-speed automatic transmission with manual-shifting also is now standard on the 1998 Audi A8. High intensity discharge headlights are now an option on the flagship Audi sedan. The Audi Cabriolet remains the German luxury car company's line-up unchanged.
