Almost the entire 1998 Acura range features some impressive upgrades. On the flagship Acura RL, the 1998 model year introduces a sportier handling suspension, standard heated mirrors and a new eight-speaker audio system. Debuting last year, the Acura CL receives a number of upgrades starting with a new grille and machine-finished allows wheels. The base 1998 Acura CL now comes with a larger displacement 2.3-liter VTEC engine. For the 1998 model year, the Acura Integra Type R returns as a limited edition model powered by a 195-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. Built to be lighter, lower and more aerodynamically refined than the Integra GS-R model, the Type R also comes with race-inspired suspension and large diameter disc brakes. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and a simulated carbon fiber trim are also equipped on the 1998 Acura Integra Type R coupe. For 1998, the Acura SLX premium sport utility vehicle is fitted with a new 3.5-liter V-6 producing 215 horsepower. Along with Torque on Demand, new items found on the 1998 SLX include a more refined audio system and a redesigned instrument panel. Trim levels of the 1998 Acura TL have been enhanced with the discontinuation of the Premium model.
