Sailboat designer Reuben Trane founded the Florida Bay Boat Company in 1980. Florida Bay Boats Company began construction of fiberglass day sailing watercraft in 1981 for the recreational market. Florida Bay Boat Company ceased operations in 1988 with several other boat builders acquiring the property to produce the Trane-designed vessels.
