Aston Martin Day at the NADAguides.com Office: Aston Martin DBS and Aston Martin Vantage

Posted by Jeff Glucker on Saturday, November 15, 2008 8:27 AM

An Aston Martin DBS on the left and an Aston Martin Vantage on the right - do you want soul crushing power or just soul bruising power?

I was handed the key to a 2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage for the weekend. This is pretty good timing because I need something cool to go drive to the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Before I head off to the movie or start my review of the car, I had the opportunity to see how the car stacks up next to the Aston Martin DBS. More photos of the pair after the jump...

The DBS and the Vantage are amazing machines - one costs what you expect it to but the other is much less expensive than you think...

The Aston Martin DBS is agent 007's car of choice in the current Bond film Quantum of Solace (as well as Casino Royale) and you cannot argue with his decision. The DBS is powered by a 6.0L V12 that pushes out a heart-thumping 510 hp. The exterior of the car has carbon fiber in all the right spots to keep the weight low and performance way up. It is a car with a true race-bred pedigree and a price tag to match.

The 2009 Aston Martin Vantage that I am driving is no slouch however. The 4.7L V8 produces 420 hp and pushes the car around like a classy rocketship. I don't want to go into too much detail in regards to the car ahead of my review but if you are in the market for a Porsche 911, Mercedes SL or BMW M6 and you don't instead buy this Aston Martin... I believe it is within my legal right to call you a complete idiot. This car is amazing and less expensive than you think. Stay tuned for my review in the coming weeks...

Wow, two magnificent cars side by side. The design team at Aston Martin should be proud. We don't see these too often and when you do they definately turn heads. All I can say is, Hey Jeff, drive um like you stole um and tell us all about it!!!

Thanks, Carl

Jeff Glucker 11/15/2008 2:33 PM

@Carl: They should be proud... their cars all capture the same spirit and design aesthetic while offering a product for buyers at different financial levels...

If the fire gets any closer I will have to drive it like that...

Their cars are so beautiful they could be framed and hung on the wall!!!

I am thinking of buying a new car and I am looking at the MB SL550 and the Porsche 911 Turbo. How do these stack up as far as price go? I like the styling of the Vantage but price is a concern. I do know one thing, more ladies are buying performance cars and I love it....

Thanks for your help, Carrie

So, did you enjoy the car or the movie better?

Jeff Glucker 11/17/2008 8:32 AM

@Carrie:
The SL 550 and the Porsche Turbo are both very good cars. The Porsche is about $30,000 more than the SL 550 (and around the same price as the Vantage).

The sound and driving experience of the Porsche will trump that of the SL 550, but the 550 offers greater ease as a daily-driver.

If you are at a level financially where you can afford the 911 Turbo, than I think you should consider the Vantage in your comparison shopping.

Forget the cars how do I apply for your job??????

Carl 11/17/2008 8:54 AM

Great question Joe!!!

Jeff Glucker 11/17/2008 8:57 AM

@Joe: Hahaha... right place, right time...

If you have a passion about something there is a way to make it your job, you just have to find out how.

JEFF: Do you expect me to talk?

GOLDFINGER: No, Mr. Glucker, I expect you to drive!

Jeff Glucker 11/24/2008 9:21 AM

@Aaron:

... and drive I did... my review of the Vantage is forthcoming

Mel 7/22/2009 5:45 PM

That photo of the rear of the Aston's is just... amazing. Heart stoppingly gorgeous!!

Mel 7/22/2009 6:04 PM

.. and Earl? Those cars should not be hung on the wall... they should be parked in my garage!!
