AutoTrader Find of the Week: 1983 Land Rover One Ten

A rugged and polarizing iconic SUV, the classically styled Land Rovers of years past show case a tough exterior design contrasting a civil interior fit for the Queen. The Defender series is the best representation of this style and was brought into the United States starting in 1993. The rest of the world was able to enjoy this vehicle when it was introduced back in 1983, ten years prior. At that time, the vehicles were not called Defenders but they were simply referred to by their wheelbase length. Instead of a home makeover show, I would like to see a car makeover show. Not of the “Pimp My Ride” variety, but one where a manufacturer takes a vehicle and transforms it into something better. They turn it into a vehicle that is both better looking and performing. Land Rover had done just that. In 2005, they sent their Freelander to SUV modeling school and it came out the other side as the 2008 LR2. I have the key fob to a 2009 Land Rover LR2 HSE and I am ready to see how she struts. The 1948 Land Rover, named Huey, is the very first pre-production model.

Land Rover, the iconic manufacturer of true sport utility vehicles, just celebrated its 60th anniversary at the 2008 Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. To mark the occasion, Land Rover showcased their Portraits of Adventure photography exhibit, which is a historical display of Land Rover over the past 60 years. GM Brands Up For Sale? Part 2

Despite recent reports to the contrary in the Wall Street Journal, General Motors (GM) is not considering discontinuing or selling any of its brands other than Hummer, according to a meeting Mark LaNeve, VP of Sales for North America, had with its dealers. Regardless of its official position on the matter, there are definitely some major changes on the horizon for GM. It is faced with a 16 percent decline in sales this year (compared with an industry-wide decline of 10 percent). Stock analysts believe the company needs to raise $5 billion to $15 billion in cash in order to stem its ongoing losses and high expenses, and if it doesn't, bankruptcy is a possibility.
