Chevy Camaro Returns to Flex American Muscle

Posted by Tara Baukus Mello on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:56 PM

It seems like it's been forever since General Motors (GM) said it was going to bring back the Chevy Camaro, and now it has finally unveiled the production version of the car, which is captured on GMtv video.

The 2010 Chevy Camaro (shown here) will mark the return of the Camaro since 2002.

Though car enthusiasts have long been talking about its return since the 2002 Camaro bit the dust, today's high gas prices make the idea of owning a big, brawny American muscle car less appealing than before. The good news is that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will be offered with two engines, both of which get pretty good gas mileage considering their power. GM Chairman Bob Lutz told the public recently on GM's FastLane Blog that ...

The Quest For Cheap Gas

Posted by Tara Baukus Mello on Wednesday, July 02, 2008 11:16 AM

With everyone feeling the pinch of gas prices lately, it's easy to start looking for cheap gas stations in your area or using a website, such as GasBuddy.com, to find low gas prices. In a recent conversation with Dr. Richard Cohen, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Temple University, who helped us debunk some common "tips" for improving gas mileage, he reminded me that driving a few extra miles to buy cheap gas may not be worth the savings.

Gas Prices Soar at the Pump

In Philadelphia, where he lives, many residents are driving about 10 miles across the river to New Jersey, where gas prices are about 20 cents cheaper per gallon. Since, on average, it would take about a half gallon of gas to make the round trip, the extra cost is about $2 to get a $4 savings, netting only $2 extra savings, which residents need for the $2 minimum toll to cross the river to get to New Jersey! Doesn't make a lot of "cents," does it?

There are much better ways of saving money on gas and improving your gas mileage. Check out our top tips in our recent article: Gas Saving Ti...

Road Trip Fever

Posted by Tara Baukus Mello on Monday, June 30, 2008 2:56 PM

Summer is officially here and for my family, that means road trips. When I was a kid, car road trips meant driving as fast as you could go to get to your destination, without sightseeing along the way.

As an adult, I have learned that a true road trip is about the journey, not the destination. With each road trip vacation, my husband and I have let the road guide us instead of being a slave to our travel guide. Finding the unexpected and having the time to truly experience, it has often been the most memorable part of each car trip.

BMW 6 Series Convertible is a Great Road Trip Car

On a road trip on the California coast, we piloted our BMW 6 Series convertible (my road test car for that week) on a curving, mountainous road inland to the seldom-visited Mission San Antonio de Padua. When the Ford F-150 was redesigned a few years ago, we drove the pickup a circuitous 1,800 miles from Texas to California, stumbl...

Consumers Increasingly Choose CUVs Over SUVs

Posted by Tara Baukus Mello on Monday, June 23, 2008 12:39 PM

With ever-climbing gas prices, it's no surprise that consumers are increasingly looking for more fuel-efficient cars. Here in southern California, gas prices have been over $4 a gallon for a while now. According to the Energy Information Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy, the national average this week is $3.93 per gallon of regular unleaded (a 73-cent jump over the same time last year), so the whole country will likely be experiencing $4-plus per gallon gasoline soon.

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe and Dodge Durango Boast Hefty Incentives

Recent research at NADAguides.com shows that consumer interest in crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) has increased at almost the same rate as interest in sport utility vehicles (SUVs) has declined--14.8 percent versus 15.9 percent, respectively--when comparing April 2007 to April 2008 data. A big reason for this shift is because of rising gas prices....
