Suzuki Grand Vitara Models and Grand Vitara History
Introduced in 1999, the Grand Vitara was an all-new SUV model from Suzuki offering plenty of features and a punchy V6 engine. The big news for 2000 was the release of a Limited Edition Grand Vitara which was loaded with options and signature luxury features. New front and rear bumpers and a redesigned grille debuted for 2001, alongside new front seat armrest and headrests. 2002 saw major updates to all upper trim levels. In 2003, a new dashboard debuted as well as new aluminum wheels, a seven-speaker audio system with CD player, new overhead storage compartments with reading lights and updates to all trim levels.
The Grand Vitara would cruise through 2004 and 2005 with only minor updates. In 2006, Suzuki completely overhauled the Grand Vitara, introducing higher quality interior parts. A tire-pressure monitoring system was added as a standard feature in 2007. Updates for 2008 included better soundproofing in the cabin, updated climate control, a new sunroof and fuel door release. In 2009, a new four-cylinder model debuted and the V6 model was updated to add more power. A new grill also was added alongside updated interior controls and a new front bumper. The Grand Vitara would pass through 2010 relatively unchanged, with only subtle updates to the GPS system for 2011 and the addition of Bluetooth integration as a standard feature. The V6 engine was discontinued for this model year, too. No major changes were in store for 2012. An updated front fascia with new grill were added for 2013.
