Subaru upgraded the door panels and dashboard while discontinuing the depowered airbags for the Impreza Sedan in 1998. A modest increase in hp and new multi-reflector headlights were the big changes for 1999. In 2000, 24-hour roadside assistance was offered. Newer and higher quality materials, a refreshed interior and exterior style, and new safety upgrades were the only notable updates for 2001. Model years 2002-2003 saw only upper trim level updates. For 2004, the Impreza Sedan boasted new front fascias, new headlights and subtle changes to the trim levels. No major changes were in store for 2005.


In 2006, the Impreza Sedan got new tail lamps and new fenders. Trim level upgrades marked the only changes for 2007. In 2008, an all-new Impreza Sedan was unveiled, offering a roomier interior, a refreshed exterior and a lower price tag. 2009 yielded no major changes, with a new front grille being added for 2010. A revamped audio system was the big update for 2011, with a redesigned Impreza Sedan being issued in 2012 that offered a new style inside and out and higher quality workmanship. In 2013, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity were added as standard features. There were no major updates for 2014.
