Jeep describes the 2014 Compass as a compact SUV providing "the packaging and interior flexibility of an SUV with the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a compact car." For 2014, the 5-passenger
Compass is offered with front- or 4-wheel drive (2WD or 4WD), and in Sport, Latitude or Limited trim levels.
Exterior Features
The 2014 Jeep Compass receives updated styling. All trim levels are equipped with darkened headlight and taillight bezels, painted side mirror caps, and chrome tailgate trim. The Compass Latitude and Compass Limited trim level gain Billet Silver grille texturing, while the Limited trim now has projector beam headlights, fog lights with chrome bezels, and an exclusive 18-inch wheel option. Standard equipment for the Compass Sport includes heated power exterior mirrors, rear-window wiper and washer, fog lights, and 16-inch steel wheels.
Interior Features
The 2014 Jeep Compass is equipped with new satin chrome accent trim, instrument cluster graphics, and vinyl wrapped around the center armrest and door armrests. The Latitude trim level gets new vinyl and sport mesh seat upholstery with Light Gray or Tangerine accent stitching, depending on the fabric color selected. The Limited trim level can now be optioned with Saddle Brown perforated leather seats.
Standard equipment for the 2014 Jeep Compass Sport includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, and an outside temperature display. Illuminated cupholders and a removable and rechargeable flashlight are also standard on every 2014 Compass, along with dark tinted rear privacy glass, floor mats, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
Optional Features
Upgrading from Sport trim to the 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude adds aluminum wheels, height-adjustable driver's seat, heated cloth front seats, fold-flat front passenger's seat, reclining rear seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 115-volt power outlet.
The 2014 Jeep Compass Limited adds 4-wheel-disc brakes, leather upholstery, power driver's seat, automatic climate control, vehicle information center, auto-dimming rearview mirror, universal garage door opener, upgraded audio system with hard-disc music storage and satellite radio, and unique 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Depending on the trim level selected, the 2014 Jeep Compass can be optioned with Uconnect smartphone pairing and infotainment technology with an iPod interface, navigation system with real-time traffic reports, premium audio system with rear liftgate speakers, power sunroof, reversing camera, and All-Weather Capability Group option package containing all-terrain tires, all-season floor mats, tow hooks, and an engine block heater.
Under the Hood
The 2014 Jeep Compass Sport and Latitude models are equipped with a standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 158 horsepower and 141 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard for the Sport model, with the new 6-speed automatic transmission optional for the Compass Sport and standard for the Compass Limited. Jeep says the model with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive will return 30 mpg on the highway.
Optional for the Sport and Latitude models, and standard on the Limited model, is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 172 horsepower and 165 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment.
Two 4WD systems are offered for the 2014 Compass. The Freedom Drive I system is an active, full-time system with a Lock mode and designed for lighter-duty usage. The Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package provides Jeep "Trail Rated" capability, and includes a continuously variable transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires, 1-inch increase in ride height, skid plates, tow hooks, full-size spare tire, fog lights, and a manual seat-height adjuster.
Safety
With the inclusion of side-impact air bags for the front seats, the 2014 Jeep Compass is equipped with 6 standard air bags for the first time. Additionally, the Compass is equipped with traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and hill-start assist. A reversing camera is a new option for 2014.
