  • Four-door version of the 6 Series Coupe
  • 4.4-inch wheelbase stretch compared to 6 Series Coupe
  • "4+1" seating arrangement
  • 640i, 650i, and 650i xDrive models

Exterior Features

The 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a 4-door "coupe" designed to compete against the Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. It is based on the standard 6 Series Coupe, but features a 4.4-inch longer wheelbase for greater rear-seat room.

Interior Features

BMW says the 6 Series Gran Coupe offers "4+1" seating, which means it is designed primarily to seat four passengers but can carry five people if necessary. According to the automaker, the Gran Coupe's cabin is "driver-centric," and is equipped with standard 20-way power multi-contour front seats wrapped in leather.

Optional Features

Nappa and Merino extended leather options are available for the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, as well as a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, ceramic interior controls, and bespoke colors and materials through the BMW Individual program. A Luxury Seating package contains 4-zone automatic climate control, rear side window shades, and ventilated active front seats.

The Gran Coupe can also be equipped with an M Sport package, which includes sport seats, unique interior trim, LED fog lights, aerodynamic body kit, 19-inch M double-spoke aluminum wheels, and special paint selections.

Under the Hood

The 640i Gran Coupe is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine making 315 horsepower from 5,800 to 6,000 rpm and 330 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,300 to 4,500 rpm. Acceleration to 60 mph takes about 5.3 seconds, according to BMW.

The 650i Gran Coupe is quicker and more powerful, thanks to a twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V-8 engine generating 445 horsepower from 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 480 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. The 650i Gran Coupe gets to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, and is slightly quicker when fitted with BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Both 6 Series Gran Coupes have a standard 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and are equipped with BMW Efficient Dynamics technology, which employs brake regeneration and Auto Start-Stop systems to maximize fuel efficiency. Standard Driving Dynamics Control calibrates the powertrain, suspension and steering to the driver's choice between Comfort+, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and fuel-saving Eco Pro driving modes. BMW says Eco Pro can improve fuel efficiency by up to 20 percent.

BMW offers an optional Driver Assistance package for the new 6 Series Gran Coupe. It includes a lane departure-warning system, Active Blind Spot Detection, Surround View cameras (including forward cross-traffic view at less than 10 mph), Parking Assistant, BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go capability, and a next-generation, full-color BMW head-up display with 3D graphics.
