Introduction
The 2013 Acura RDX is completely redesigned, but remains a compact luxury crossover SUV with front- or all-wheel drive and 5-passenger seating.
Exterior Features
The new 2013 Acura RDX is equipped with standard 18-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, roof-mounted rear spoiler, and heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators. Seven colors are available, all shades of white, gray, black and beige except for Basque Red Pearl.
Interior Features
Inside, the 2013 Acura RDX is equipped with a standard 8-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, perforated leather upholstery, and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also included in the base price, along with a power moonroof, Keyless Access entry and ignition system, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, and a reversing camera with three viewing modes. A premium sound system includes satellite radio, a USB port, and an auxiliary audio input jack.
The new RDX provides 26.1 cubic feet of luggage space behind the rear seats. Fold the 60/40-split rear seats down, and there's 76.9 cubic feet of cargo room.
Optional Features
Acura equips the 2013 RDX with nearly everything as standard equipment. All-wheel drive is optional, as is a Technology package. The Technology package adds a voice-recognition navigation system; AcuraLink telematics with real-time traffic reports and re-routing, and real-time weather reports with radar image maps; GPS-linked solar-sensing climate control system; power tailgate; and an Acura/ELS premium surround-sound audio system with 15GB of hard-disc music file storage space.
Under the Hood
The new Acura RDX is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 273 horsepower. Standard Variable Cylinder Management allows the engine to operate on fewer cylinders under low-load conditions in order to help conserve fuel. A Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission drives the RDX's front wheels. The optional AWD with Intelligent Control system delivers power to the rear wheels as conditions warrant.
Fuel Economy
Final EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Acura RDX were not available as this preview was published. Acura estimates that the RDX, for which premium fuel is recommended by the automaker, will achieve these numbers:
- RDX FWD: 20/28/23 mpg (city/hwy/combined)
- RDX AWD: 19/27/22 mpg
Safety
The 2013 Acura RDX is equipped with six air bags, traction and stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and Advanced Compatibility Engineering to help ensure greater occupant protection in a collision, according to Acura. A reversing camera is also standard on the new RDX.
The 2013 RDX had not been crash-tested as this preview was published.
