Mercury Cougar Models and Cougar History

Discontinued from production for 1999, the 2000 Cougar by Mercury was based upon the Mondeo chassis and offered either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine for buyers to choose from, including the popular Duratec V6. The 2001 model offered a new floor design and emergency release trunk handles. The interior and exterior were updated with a more modern design, new headlights, a new grille, spoiler and fog lights, front and rear fascias, and painted or machined wheels in varying sizes (16” or 17”). A host of new body colors were introduced and two different special edition trims were unveiled. 2002 saw a mix-up in various optional add-ons and trim levels.
