The 1998 Isuzu Trooper got a larger engine that weighedless and that increased the overall available horsepower by as much as 22percent, depending upon the displacement. This model year also saw the additionof the popular Torque On Demand (TOD) drive system for improved handling. In1999, Isuzu offered a special gold trim package and included TOD as a standardfeature. In 2000, the two-wheel-drive Trooper was unveiled in the S-trim model.The company also added an LS trim and a premium Limited trim. The exterior wasslightly redesigned and a 10-year/120,000-mile powertrain warranty was offered,the longest warranty offered on a car at that time. In 2001, the Trooper was offered in a special AnniversaryPackage that celebrated the 85th anniversary of the carmaker. The2002 model year of the Trooper saw new privacy glass added and UV-cut glass forthe S trim. The moon roof was offered as a standard feature, as were map lightsand climate control (for S models). The LS models got a new digital clock withtemperature readings and a service reminder warning. The Limited trim nowoffered the desirable Nakamichi premium sound system for buyers.
