For 2009, Hyundai introduced an all-new flagship sedan with the premium-trimmed Genesis designed as a direct competitor against upscale four-door sedans such as the Chrysler 300 and even the BMW 5-Series. The 2009 Genesis debut presented several unique qualities not seen from Hyundai vehicles at the time in the United States. The Hyundai Genesis was rear-wheel drive and offered an available V-8 powerplant.
Standard equipped with a 3.8-liter V-6 engine producing 290 horsepower, the optional 4.6-liter eight-cylinder Tau powerplant powered 375 horsepower. Six-speed automatic transmissions were included as standard equipment with both engines. On V-6 models of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan, standard amenities included four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system, dual-zone automatic temperature controls, leather seating, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and a seven-speaker stereo system.
Versions of the 2009 Genesis powered by the V-8 engine received additional features such as power rear sunshade as well as an upgraded stereo system with 15 premium Lexicon speakers and six-disc CD changer. The 2010 model year Hyundai Genesis offered a Smart Cruise Control system as part of a Technology Package. Eight-cylinder models of the 2010 Genesis received a seven-inch touchscreen navigation system as standard equipment.
For 2012, the Hyundai Genesis sedan underwent a major facelift. A massive exterior refresh consisted of new front and rear fascias as well as LED headlight accents. The base six-cylinder engine for the 2012 Genesis was increased to 333 horsepower thanks to gasoline direct injection technology. A new addition to the powerplant choices for the 2012 Genesis line-up was a direct-injected 5.0-liter V-8 engine generating 429 horsepower.
The 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec model was also introduced with a performance-tuned suspension and 19-inch machined-finish alloy wheels. For 2015, a completely new Hyundai Genesis has brought an extensive redesign and enhanced technology to the sedan.
An all-around luxurious and roomy sedan that offers plenty of interior amenities, a five-star safety rating, a stable and smooth ride, good fuel economy and one of the finest warranties you’ll find anywhere.
