Ford Expedition EL Models and Expedition EL History

An indirect replacement to the Excursion, the Expedition EL arrived in 2007 as a longer wheelbase version of Ford’s familiar large sport utility vehicle. The debut of the Expedition EL concurred with the introduction of the third-generation Ford Expedition. Based on a wheelbase that is 12 inches longer than the regular Expedition, the 2007 Ford Expedition EL was stretched out by 14.8 inches overall. With seating for up to eight, the interior can hold as much as 130.8 cubic feet of cargo when the rear seats are folded down.

The 2007 model year consisted of three trim levels (XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited) offered with the choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drivetrains. Four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system, cruise control, power windows and a sound system with rear passenger audio controls were included standard on the Ford Expedition EL for 2007. For 2008, a King Ranch trim level was also added to the large sport utility vehicle. The 2007 Expedition EL’s propulsion was sourced from Ford’s 5.4-liter Triton V-8 powerplant mated to a brand-new six-speed automatic transmission. Introducing the Expedition EL with an output of 300 horsepower, Ford made a 10 horsepower improvement to the Triton V-8 engine for the 2009 model year.

Along with the increased power, the engine of the 2009 Ford Expedition EL was also made FlexFuel compatible to run E85 blended gasoline. SYNC was made available on the Expedition EL in 2009 while a Trailer Sway Control became standard on all models in 2010. Maximum available towing for the 2010 Expedition EL was rated at 8,900 pounds. In 2015, the Expedition EL featured a refreshed exterior and interior. The 2015 Ford Expedition EL also trades the V-8 engine for an EcoBoost V-6 powerplant.
