Ford Edge Models and Edge History

After years of supporting truck-based sport utility vehicles, Ford entered the crossover utility market with the Edge. A mid-sized vehicle capable of seating five, the 2007 Ford Edge was tailored to general family use. Available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the 2007 Ford Edge was exclusively powered by a 3.5-liter Duratec V-6 engine. An engine generating 265 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission developed with General Motors provided a smooth transfer of power to the drive wheels. Fords AdvanceTrac electronic stability control came standard on the 2007 Edge as did front passenger, side-impact and side curtain airbags.

Optional equipment offered on the 2007 Ford Edge included a Vista Roof and power liftgate. Fords SYNC system became available on the Edge starting in the 2008 model year. The Limited trim level replaced the SEL Plus in 2008 while an Edge Sport was added in 2009. On the 2009 Ford Edge Sport, 20-inch aluminum wheels, chromed exhaust tips and unique body accents. For the 2011 model year, the Ford Edge received refined exterior styling and an enhanced interior. As part of the 2011 mid-cycle refresh for the Edge, the crossover provided two additional engines for drivers to choose from.

Along with the 3.5-liter engine now producing 285 horsepower, a 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V-6 engine and a fuel-conscious 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder could provide momentum to the Ford Edge. Capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds, the 2011 Edge crossover utility presented up to 68.9 cubic-feet of cargo space when the rear passenger seats are folded down. For 2015, the Ford Edge has been completely redesigned.
