Dodge Ram Wagon Models and Ram Wagon History

A large capacity passenger van, the Dodge Ram Wagon could accommodate up to 15 passengers for a single trip. Similar to the cargo-oriented Ram Van, the Dodge Ram Wagon was constructed on a chassis using basic principles dating back to the 1970s. Presented with a major exterior update in 1994, the Dodge Ram Wagon received another set of revisions in 1998. A subtle but appreciated change was moving the engine forward allowing front passengers of the V-8 engined models of the van to experience greater interior room.

A styling touch of the front vent window was also deleted for the 1998 model year. Offered in 1500, 2500 as well as 3500 models, the Ram Wagon was presented with 109.6-inch and 127.6-inch wheelbase lengths. Standard power for the eight-passenger Dodge Ram Wagon 1500 came from a 3.9-liter V-6 engine producing 175 horsepower.

Eight-cylinder power from a 220-horsepower, 5.2-liter Magnum V-8 is optional on the Ram Wagon 1500 and standard on the 2500 and 3500 line. A 5.9-liter Magnum V-8 engine generating 230 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque was also available on the larger versions of the Dodge Ram Wagon. The one-ton 3500 Maxiwagon version was 26 inches longer than the 2500 model allowing it to accommodate 15 passengers with ease.

While Chryslers minivans greatly reduced demand for large passenger vans during the 1980s and 1990s, the Dodge Ram Wagon maintained desirably for commercial purposes. The van was popular as an airport shuttle and was converted into school buses. Entrance to the back passenger rows of the Dodge Ram Wagon was accomplished though a single or dual door setup. The Dodge Ram Wagon was discontinued after the 2002 model year and Chrysler eventually offered a passenger version of the Mercedes-Benz sourced Sprinter van.
