Chrysler entered the crossover vehicle segment for the first time in 2004 with a vehicle called the Pacifica. The same chassis used by Chryslers minivan line-up served as the basis of the Chrysler Pacifica. The 2004 Chrysler Pacifica was offered as a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration. Standard power for the 2004 Pacifica was derived from a 3.5-liter V-6 engine.
The 250-horsepower V-6 engine of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission incorporating an AutoStick shifter. Attempting to showcase the Pacifica as a luxurious alternative to the minivan, Chrysler included a sizable complement of standard equipment on the crossover vehicle. 17-inch aluminum wheels, air suspension, cruise control, dual-zone climate control and leather-wrapped steering wheel were all included on the 2004 Chrysler crossover vehicle.
Three-row seating came standard on the 2004 Pacifica providing interior accommodations for six occupants. In 2005, with the addition of Touring and Limited trim levels, the third row seating was no longer included on the base model of the Chrysler Pacifica. For 2006, 200-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 engine replaced the 3.5-liter powerplant as the base propulsion of the crossover. The following year, the Chrysler Pacificas older engine was replaced by a 4.0-liter V-6 powerplant generating 255 horsepower.
The new engine included an all-new six-speed automatic transmission for the Pacifica. Added standard to all Chrysler Pacifica models in 2007 was side curtain airbags and electronic stability control. Despite reasonable sales numbers for the crossover, early quality issues haunted the Chrysler Pacifica. Pacifica production concluded after the 2008 model year.
A six-passenger crossover that receives some updated styling for the new year, the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica is available in a handful of trims, all of which utilize a new six-speed automatic transmission.
