Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Veh Models and Tahoe Special Service Veh History

Built on General Motor’s solid GMT800 truck platform, the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle was marketed to law enforcement and other first responders as a versatile sport utility vehicle. Introduced with the choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, the 2003 Tahoe Special Service Vehicle included standard four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock control and a rear anti-roll bar. An all-new Stabilitrak stability control system was made available on the Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle for 2003. Purchasers of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Services Vehicle were provided with a choice of two Vortec V-8 engines. A 4.8-liter V-8 engine produced 275 horsepower while a 5.3-liter powerplant offered 325 pound-feet torque and the availability of bi-fuel compatibility. The two-wheel drive model was suited for high-speed cruising while the four-wheel drive version of the 2003 Tahoe Special Service Vehicle was meant for better control under more severe driving conditions. Unlike the 2003 and 2004 model year Tahoe Special Service Vehicle, the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle would only be offered as a four-wheel drive product. A Police Pursuit Vehicle version of the Tahoe filled the void for a two-wheel drive. Moving to the GMT900 platform for 2007, the restyled Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle was powered by a 5.3-liter V-8 engine generating 320 horsepower and able to run on E85 blended gasoline. An array of heavy-duty equipment was outfitted on the 2007 Tahoe Special Service Vehicle including a higher capacity radiator, engine oil cooler, 730 CCA battery and an underbody skid plate. A dual-battery setup as well as spotlights was offered as optional items. Inside the cabin for the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle, standard air conditioning, power door locks and tilt steering wheel allowed the operator function comfortably.
