Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Models and Silverado 2500 History

A three-quarter ton pickup truck, the Silverado 2500 debuted in 1999 as a replacement to the long-running C/K 2500 name. Available body styles for the Silverado 2500 consisted of a regular and extended cab model. More powerful and refined than the truck it replaced, the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 included hydroformed frame construction, standard four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system and power from a new Vortec V-8 engine family. Standard engine power for the 1999 Silverado 2500 came from a 270-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8 engine. Fuel economy for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with the 5.3-liter Vortec engine is rated at 15 miles per gallon city and 19 miles per gallon highway.

Optional engine power was also available from a 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 that generated 300 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions of the three-quarter ton Chevrolet pickup truck were available when equipped with the larger powerplant. In 2001, the 6.0-liter engine was promoted to standard equipment on the three-quarter ton pickup paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. With weight-distributing hitch and sway control, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 can tow up to 10,700 pounds of load.

For 2003, the Silverado received revised front-end styling inspired by the Avalanche conveying a more aggressive look. 16-inch wheels, interior power outlet and air conditioning were included standard with the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. After 2004, Chevrolet streamlined their full-sized pickup truck line-up by dropping the base 2500 model. A 2500HD remained as the only three-quarter ton truck sold by Chevrolet.
