The Chevrolet C/K 3500 Crew Cab was a pickup truck presenting the best of two worlds for customers. Outfitted for heavy-duty toughness and capacity, the C/K 3500 Crew Cab also featured a roomy cabin area capable of seating up to six occupants. For 1998, Chevrolet truck customers of the heavy-duty crew cab truck could accept the respectable performance of the 255-horsepower 5.7-liter Vortec V-8 or choose from two optional powerplants.
The first alternative powerplant was a more power gasoline-fueled Vortec V-8 engine allowed 290 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque to move the pickup truck. The second optional engine for the C/K 3500 Crew Cab featured turbocharged diesel performance. A 6.5-liter V-8 turbo diesel presented 430 pound-feet of torque at an engine rev range of 1,800 RPM. The diesel engine was discontinued after the 2000 model year. There was also a bi-fuel equipment option on the C/K 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 model allowing the truck to run on gasoline or natural gas.
Available transmissions on the heavy-duty Chevrolet crew cab truck consisted of a five-speed manual as well as four-speed automatic gearbox that was extensively upgraded for 1998 for improved durability and decreased vibration. Also new for the 1998 C/K 3500 Crew Cab was the General Motors’ Passlock theft deterrent system. The interior of the Chevrolet C/K 3500 Crew Cab is standard equipped with a front bench seat, AM/FM radio and a pair of 12-volt power outlets. Air conditioning, leather seating as well as front center console was available for improved interior comfort. The Chevrolet C/K 3500 Crew Cab was replaced by a crew cab based on the Silverado 3500 for the 2001 model year.
