Chevrolet C/K 1500 Models and C/K 1500 History

The C/K designation was first used for identifying the trucks of Chevrolet in 1960. Referring to the light-duty full-sized line of pickup trucks, the “C” designation was assigned to rear-wheel drive models while the “K” would be attached to four-wheel drive Chevrolet trucks. The C/K line received a fourth-generation redesign for 1987 that greatly redefined Chevrolet’s important and dependable full-sized pickup truck line-up. As the half-ton model, the 1500 version was the most popular of the Chevrolet C/K line.

During the 1998 model year, the Chevrolet C/K 1500 would be offered as a Fleetside model with a regular or extended cab configuration. Aside from the cab design choices, the 1998 C/K 1500 presented rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrain options as well as a multitude of engine choices. Base power for the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 came from a 200-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6 engine. Eight-cylinder gasoline propulsion on the 1998 C/K 1500 was derived from one of two engines. A 5.0-liter V-8 engine generated 230 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque while a 5.

7-liter powerplant delivered a peak level 255 horsepower. The gasoline-powered V-6 and V-8 models of the Chevrolet C/K 1500 could be mated with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. Also available on the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 truck line was a 6.5-liter turbocharged diesel powerplant. The diesel version of the C/K 1500 provided up to 360 pound-feet of torque to the driver. The extended cab model of the C/K 1500 pickup truck could accommodate up to six passengers. Front driver and passenger airbag, AM/FM stereo and a 12-volt power outlet was included standard on the Chevrolet C/K 1500. After 22 years in production with the fourth-generation body style, the C/K was replaced by the Silverado full-sized pick up line in 2000.
