About CL

The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class replaces the S-Class coupes for 1998, with new BabySmart airbag technology and BrakeAssist being added as new features. The new model would coast through 1999-2000 relatively unchanged. For 2001, the 362-horsepower V12 CL600 debuted with minor updates to all trim levels. Nothing was new for 2002, with updates to the CL55 and CL600 being the only trim level changes for 2003. The CL500 got a new seven-speed automatic transmission with DVD based navigation and remote entry as well as other options being offered for 2004. Nothing was new for 2005, with the popular AMG sports package getting a major update for 2006. While 2007 yielded no major changes, an all-new CL-Class debuted in 2008, offering a new AMG trim with 518 hp and the 604 hp CL63 trim. All-wheel-drive was added to the CL550 in 2009, with a host of new features that included remote start, heated seats and new interior options. For 2010, a new variable-ratio steering system was made standard alongside new safety equipment. Updates to the various trim levels included subtle changes such as larger wheels and a new 100th Anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Edition. A revamped CL-Class greeted buyers for 2011, with updated interior and exterior styling and two new V8 engines to choose from, with the CL65 boasting 621 hp. The CL-Class would zip through model years 2012-2014 relatively unchanged.
