About Murcielago

In 2002, Lamborghini introduced the replacement for the popular Diablo, unveiling the classier and newly designed Murcielago, which featured a boisterous 6.2-liter 12-cylinder engine that was rated at a whopping 575 horsepower. No major changes were made to the car in 2003 or in 2004. In 2005, an open-top model was unveiled. The carmaker also updated the brakes. In 2006, a newly designed braking system was introduced that featured carbon-ceramic disks that could absorb higher rates of heat and friction, helping drivers stop faster and more smoothly. A Carbon package and a Branding package were also introduced for this model year. In 2007, the Murcielago was renamed to the Murcielago LP640. It signified the faster engine, which produced 52 more horses, for a total of 632 horsepower. A new gearbox was also introduced for this model year, as was a new braking system, new interior and exterior styling and an optional glass cover for the engine. No major changes were made to the Murcielago LP640 in 2008 or in 2009. In 2010, a special edition model was unveiled and the lighter and faster LP670-4 was also introduced, with only 50 cars of this limited edition ever being made. No major changes were made for the final model year, 2011.
