Featuring a distant exterior appearance from the F-150 as well differential mechanical equipment, the entry-level model to the 1999 Ford Super Duty line was the F-250. Available in regular cab, extended Supercab and Crew Cab configurations, the 1999 Ford Super Duty F-250 received standard engine power, a 255-horsepower 5.4-liter V-8 powerplant. A ten-cylinder 6.8-liter engine and a 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbocharged diesel producing 525 lb-ft of torque was optional on the Ford Super Duty F-250. In 2003, a more powerful 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel replaced the larger displacement unit.
