About Town and Country

A nameplate appearing on Chrysler products since 1941, Town and Country was introduced in 1990 as a premium level minivan. Three years since a complete redesign, the 1998 Chrysler Town and Country appeared with a remodeled front end featuring new headlights as well as a grille accented by a winged Chrysler badge. Dual rear passenger area sliding doors were standard on the Town and Country. The 1998 minivan was offered on a 119.3-inch wheelbase with the LX and LXi or as the 113.3-inch wheelbase SX model that was introduced the previous year.

With occupancy for up to even passengers, base models of the 1998 Chrysler Town and Countrys interior included standard AM/FM, multi-zone air conditioning and keyless entry. Six-cylinder engines consisting of 3.3-liter and 3.8-liter displacement sizes were offered on the Town & Country through to the 2010 model year. Standard as a front-wheel drive layout, an all-wheel drive version of the Chrysler Town and Country was available from 1997 to 2004. Dropping the short wheelbase model in 2000, the Limited model and a rear seat entertainment system featuring a VCR and viewing screen was added to the Town and Country granting an extra level of passenger comfort.

A new generation Chrysler Town and Country in 2001 contributing an EX trim level. For 2005, a notable enhancement offered on the Chrysler minivan was the Stow n Go second and third row seating system. A redesigned 2008 model Town and Country broadened the minivan though a more sophisticated exterior and improved power.

On the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country, a 4.0-liter V-6 engine generating 251 horsepower is standard on the Limited trim version. A six-speed automatic transmission was also introduced in 2008 for the 3.6-liter and 4.0-liter V-6 powerplants. In 2011, all engines of the minivan were dropped in favor of a 283-horsepower Pentastar V-6 powerplant. LED taillights, SafetyTec and a ParkView rear backup camera was included standard on the 2011 Town and Country.
