Providing pickup truck buyers the last opportunity to buy a one-ton Chevrolet truck based on the GMT800 platform, the Silverado 3500 Classic was offered for the 2007 model year. Exclusively equipped with a long box bed accommodating up to 70.7 cubic feet of cargo volume, the Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic body styles consisted of a regular, extended and crew cab model. With an extended cab or crew cab model, up to six passengers could ride inside the Chevrolet truck. Standard power for the Silverado 3500 Classic arrived from a 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 engine.
Available powerplants for the 2007 one-ton pickup truck included a larger gasoline-fueled 8.1-liter Vortec V-8 or the high-torque Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel V-8 engine. Introduced the previous year, the Duramax 6.6-liter received extensive engineering to insure high efficiency and toughness. Maximum torque production from the diesel is 650 pound-feet at 1,800 RPMs. Standard equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, the Silverado 3500 Classic could also be fitted with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox depending on the powerplant choice.
Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive motion was offered with all body styles of the Silverado 3500 Classic in 2007. The Silverado 3500 Classic was also offered with a conventional single rear wheel per corner or a dual rear wheel version for superior hauling. Up to 5,511 pounds of payload capacity could be handled with the Silverado 3500 Classic using the dual rear wheel configuration.
When using a ball hitch, the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic could tow up to 12,000 pounds. Other features found standard on the Silverado 3500 Classic included 16-inch steel wheels, AM/FM stereo and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system. Coexisting with the Silverado 3500HD on General Motors’ new truck platform in the model line-up for 2007, the Silverado 3500 Classic was discontinued after one year of production.
