Mazda's SkyActiv technologies continue to figure heavily in a lineup defined by some smartly-styled compact vehicles for 2017. A model accounting for roughly one-quarter of worldwide sales for the Japanese auto brand, the CX-5 receives a redesign dedicated to improved passenger comfort and provided with a more matured exterior appearance. On the Mazda3 and Mazda6, a variety of exterior and interior enhancements have been undertaken for the new model year. The 2017 Mazda CX-5, Mazda3 and Mazda6 sedan gain standard G-Vectoring Control. A year following a revolutionary update to Mazda's popular yet affordable rear-wheel drive sports car, the MX-5 Miata line is expanded by a new roof configuration for 2017. The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF (Retractable Fastback) incorporates a power actuated hardtop roof. Similar to a targa top, MX-5 Miata RF's roof section over the vehicle occupants can be tucked away under the rear fastback window. During the second half of the 2017 calendar year, Mazda will finally introduce their long-awaited diesel powerplant to the North American CX-5. The SkyActiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine will possess high torque production as well as technologies designed to lessen the less pleasant sounds generally associated with the powerplant type.
