The Genesis was originally introduced as a concept sedan by Hyundai in 2007, even though the idea was created back in 2003. After making its debut in Seoul, the sedan was well received at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. Since that time, several sedan and coupe versions have been rendered. Looking to separate its popular luxury brand from its main line of vehicles, Genesis became its own luxury brand in 2016, slated as a high-end counterpart to the best-selling Hyundai lineup. The first Genesis branded models will be released for the 2017 model year and beyond, and represent Hyundai’s efforts to remain relevant in the luxury auto market.
