Bentley has set out to reshape the way that carmakers create and design ultra-luxury vehicles. The 521-horsepower Continental GT V8, which comes in a coupe or a convertible, is the sheer definition of fast-lane luxury. Everything about the curvilinear design, 21” wheels with spoked rims, gorgeous leather interior with wood trim, master control console with GPS and Wi-Fi, roomy front seats (the back seats are just like any other coupe you’d find, and are not very roomy or accommodating, unsurprisingly), and its raw speed make you think that this car would be a rock star’s first choice. However, the gentleman appeal and black-tie status of this car tells us that more often than not it will be an executive who’s behind the wheel. A robust twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 powers this beautiful cruiser, feeding over 500 horses to the all-wheel drive system with air suspension, with 487 lb-ft torque and a zero-to-60 time of about 4 seconds flat (the convertible is about .2 seconds slower off the line). Coupes don’t come finer-looking and as nicely equipped as this flagship auto does. Then again, Bentley’s are handmade for the affluent few who can actually afford to indulge in such engineering perfection.
