2014 Cadillac CTS Sedan
NADAguides Test Drive Review
Overall Score

65/70

Pros

Very fast with a first ever twin turbocharged engine and a sumptuous interior.

Cons

The CUE system can be finicky, and simple things like A/C adjustment can drive you crazy.

What's new for 2014

Completely re-designed for 2014.

Exterior Impressions

Breaking away from the typical Cadillac sedan design, the CTS takes on a much more athletic exterior, producing curvature designed to improve aerodynamics, meanwhile growing 5 inches in length. Cadillac does hold on to some of their signature roots with the shield grille and the vertical lighting, but they do so with a futuristic spin, using all crystalline LED lights.

Exterior Features

A plethora of features including 18-inch aluminum wheels, with Pirelli summer-only performance run flat tires, active aero grille shutters, which automatically close to maximize aerodynamics (increasing fuel economy) when engine cooling is not required. A new and notable feature is the first ever twin-turbocharged engine from Cadillac...it's also their first eight-speed automatic.

Interior Impressions

The interior of the CTS is absolutely gorgeous. Every inch screams luxury from the sumptuous leather seats, beautiful wood trim and soothing ambient lighting. The front cockpit is very driver-centric with everything you could need at your fingertips. Cadillac's User Experience (CUE) system interface can be a bit tricky, but the 5.7 inch touchscreen displays nicely.

Interior Features

Interior features include a surround sound Bose audio system with AM/FM CD Player, Sirius XM and HD Radio, which sounds excellent may we add. When getting into tricky spaces parallel parking assist is an added option, taking control of the wheel and guiding the car into place. Front and rear parking sensors, keyless push button start, ez key entry system and remote vehicle start are all excellent features to have. GM also offers a year of OnStar service with automatic crash response, turn by turn navigation, in addition to the navigation included in the vehicle.

Driving Impressions

You definitely don't get the feel of driving an "old mans" sedan in the CTS Vsport. This car is surprisingly fast and very fun to drive. The acceleration definitely caught us off guard. The additional turbochargers really give that added power. Braking on the CTS, we think, is one of the best in its segment (very handy with the driver assistance package, which applies the brakes lightly in the event of a close collision). Behind all the power however, is the smooth, comfortable and quiet driving experience that Cadillac is known for.

MPG Experienced

The CTS V-Sport is not the most fuel efficient due to the 3.6L V-6 Twin Turbo engine. It gets about 18 MPG combined.
