New for 2013, the Smart fortwo electric drive is a RWD electric city vehicle available in coupe and cabriolet trim levels. Both trims are powered by a water-cooled permanent 3-phase AC motor (74 hp/96 lb-ft of torque) that can be fully charged in six hours. Once fully charged the vehicle has a range of 68 miles (76 city/59 highway), an MPGe of 122 city and 93 highway. Options include ambient lighting, multimedia navigation, surround system, center console storage, heated seats, and LED daytime running lamps. Safety is comprised of electronic stability program (esp®) with hill start assist, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), full-size driver and passenger airbags, side airbags, knee-bolster airbags, and tire pressure monitoring (TPMS). The Smart fortwo electric drive offers Battery Assurance Plus, a battery rental plan that costs $80 a month and insures the vehicle's battery for up to 10 years.
