2013 Buick Verano
NADAguides Test Drive Review

The 2013 Buick Verano FWD 1st Ecotech Turbo is a compact car that spoils with luxury. Its smooth ride delivers quick and nimble handling. Not a first choice for long rides, but drivers will definitely look forward to driving it to work or around town for errands. The compact size negates the inherent safe feeling of a large vehicle, but the Verano is very tight in terms of finish, feels solid and appears well-constructed.

Exterior styling has an upscale, conservative, luxurious look, very similar to the LaCrosse. Tight lines make for a quality fit. Exterior colors include gold, white, gray, blue, brown, black, red and cream.

Under the hood drivers will find a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a quick and smooth 6-speed automatic transmission, the Verano achieves an EPA estimated 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Acceleration is solid for it's class, but quick compared to luxury sedan's in the mid-sized category. Traction and stability control make for a manageable ride that provides a sense of precision and control. Similarly, the steering provides ample feedback and road feel. Braking is reasonable and average for its class.

Interior quality is impressive considering the vehicle's price point. Materials and upholstery found on the Verano are typically found on larger, more expensive luxury sedans. Spacious, in addition to being luxurious, there is plenty of room in the front seats, however the back seats can be a little tight and uncomfortable for larger individuals. The steering wheel on the turbo (Verano Premium Group) is heated and equipped with basic audio, phone, cruise and driver info system controls. The sole downside to the steering wheel is a large, plastic center portion that gets in the way when handling the lower portion of the wheel. The media center, climate and seating controls are easy to find, learn, adjust and customize.  The only function that lacks ease of accessibility is the push button start, which is a tiny and oddly placed. Trunk space is a surprisingly spacious 14.3 cubic feet.

Features include rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, Buick's Ultrasonic rear park assist, Bluetooth for phone and music, power adjustable and heated, heated front seats, dual zone climate control, EZ Key passive entry system, remote keyless start, side blind zone alert, Bose audio with 9 speakers, SIRIUSXM, CD/MP3 player, AUX input and USB port, sport pedal kit (dealer installed), spoiler kit (dealer installed), and remote trunk pop. Airbags are comprised of driver and front passenger frontal, knee side impact and head curtain; rear onboard passengers side impact and head curtain. Other safety features consist of Stabilitrak-stability control with traction control; anti-lock brakes, 4-wheel disc, tire pressure monitoring, and compact spare tire.

Blind spots are minimal and visibility is enhanced with the rear vision camera system, side blind zone alert and the rear cross traffic alert systems. The Verano's turning radius is tight and measured at 18' which makes for turning in small spaces easy and efficient. There is no noticeable sway or weight shifting in the Verano around turns, at low or high speeds. The tire, engine and road noise is very minimal, creating a very quiet and peaceful ride that is sure to keep you coming back.
